Leeds Crusaders Scooter Club History

Five friends spurred on by a revitalized scooter scene, who thought that there was room in the Leeds area for another scooter club, formed Leeds Crusaders S.C. in 1996. Incidentally, none of the original five are now members but some have gone on to form other Leeds clubs i.e. Leeds Survivors and Rothwell etc.Originally the “Old Red Lion” at Seacroft was the meeting place but by the time the five had doubled to ten, they decided that a more Central Leeds meeting place was needed. “The Palace”, our present headquarters, was decided upon as it is on the outskirts of Leeds City Centre, easy to find and get to, loads of scooter parking space and is now one of the better-known scooter landmarks in Leeds
Many members have joined and left over the years but always parted on good terms. We have a good mixture of scooterist “ types” i.e.: skinheads, mods, scooter boys, re-borns and just enthusiasts and we all get along like a “house on fire”. Our ages range from seventeen year olds to fifty something’s. We never turn anyone away and although a predominantly Lambretta and Vespa club we have had some auto riders as members but they never seem to hang around for long or they convert to traditional geared scooters.
The club is run by Phil Cuffe, our longest serving member, who is treasurer, myself Richard Oswald being the Secretary and Anth Thompson our Webmaster, not forgetting the many other members who make valuable contributions to running the club.Over the last few years the club has gone from strength to strength with many of our members scooters in “Scootering Magazine” as feature scooters, none more so than Bertie from “Berties Paint Shop” who has had several features including three front covers and many others which he has been involved in painting including several members scooters.
The club is becoming one of the most featured and well-known clubs in Scootering. Many trophies have been won; by both the club and individuals in both indoors and outdoor custom shows. We are a rally going club and most National or large rallies are attended by Leeds Crusaders S.C. members along with nearly every smaller club rally or “do” in the North of England, concluding with Bridlington National Rally and Custom Show in October. We also actively participate in The Yorkshire Scooter Alliance runs of which we are proud members.
Every year Leeds Crusaders S.C. put on our club rally to celebrate each anniversary. Our event gets bigger and better every year with around 200 scooters attending during the day. For entertainment we have Scooter Sounds, stalls, scooter jumble, games, raffles and even a bouncy castle for the kids, in fact something for everyone. A nine trophy custom show is usually followed by a mass ride out across the city. In the evening a top class do is always topped off with a top, well known Scooter Scene Band and DJ and is usually attended by around 400 people who party into the early hours.LCSC have a great relationship with other clubs including Leeds Central, Original Harrogate In Crowd and Bradford Discharge to name but a few.Watch out for us on the rallies with our huge club flag and banner and come over for a chat and a beer.
